Advocacy

Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota's advocacy initiative is accomplished through both the efforts of individual staff members and collaborations with community organizations. Executive director John Keller spearheads advocacy efforts with public speaking engagements, legislative committee briefings, and community planning sessions. During the past year he attended meetings and immigration forums in Washington D.C., helping to make Minnesota a greater participant in the national immigration reform cause. ILCM staff members delivered presentations to community organizations, professionals, and religious groups across the state about the current immigration system and the urgency of immigration reform.

The Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota is honored to be the recipient of the 2007 Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Award in the area of Advocacy. ILCM received the award in a ceremony during the annual MCN conference in Duluth October 4 and 5. The award recognizes ILCM's work during the past year to advocate for positive legislative change and for its role as a community leader in immigration matters, particularly in the aftermath of the USICE raid in Worthington, MN in December 2006.
